Definitely THE place to stay your first time in Rio!
Perfect location right at the gay Farme de Amoedo beach! Within walking distance of several gay hangouts. Friendly staff speaks English which is helpful in a country that speaks Portuguese. Restaurant is okay. There are tons of other restaurants within a block or two of the hotel. If you want to bring a guest back to the hotel, they have to leave their id while they are visiting and you have to pay a fee to the hotel for them to visit you, but this is normal for most hotels in Rio. Rooms are comfortable. Be sure to have your room key with you if you are out late because the security staff will not let you back in without a room key late at night. If it is your first time in Rio, would recommend this place highly.
The place to stay if your gay
Not luxury (as the two other reviews indicate), but this is the best you'll get (for now - maybe with the Olympics things will change). It is comfortable if not plush and the location can not be beat. Get a room with a terrace (I believe on the 4th floor). It will make a difference.
Exact same critic as skier74
Been there in november and noticed exactly the same as skier74. Excellent location, had one of the tree terrasse room, perfect to observe guys on their way to/from the beach.
Solid 3.5 star hotel in a great location
Not a luxury hotel, but clean, modern, well-appointed rooms in a great location in Ipanema, a short block from the main gay area of the beach. Most rooms have partial beach views. Nice rooftop pool and bar/cafe with great views. Service is friendly and helpful. Breakfast was decent; the hotel restaurant is very good Asian (for L/D), though the kitchen is a bit slow. A little overpriced for the quality, but it seems that's just a fact of Ipanema hotels.
