No taste or bad taste...

Great meats, but a little too touristy

While brazilians I met told me that Procao is just like what the locals eat, looking around I saw only tourists and Brazilian businessman bringing their American guests there. The florescent lighting didn't help either. But, you go there for the food - specifically the various meats carved at your table. Each course was amazing and I found myself eating and eating all that they brought back. The desserts (not included) were eh, and the salad bar stuff wasn't very good. Overall, focus on the meat and you'll love this place.

Wear pants with elastic waist band

Fantastic food. I agree with nyhunkyguy that the location in Flamengo is better because of that location. This location is just in the city, but the food is the same fantastic food. There are so many choices of meat. Take small amounts to sample of several to see which ones you like best. They will all come around to your table again to get more.

The Name Means BIG PIG!

Does that tell you something? This is FaceStuffing Central. Gluttony Gone Wild. And the food is really good. Great meat, spit roasted and brought to your table until you say "Basta!" or "Chega!" in Portuguese. I prefer the Flamengo location with its fabulous view of Sugar Loaf to the Ipanema affiliate. Flamengo is quieter, the salad bar, Caipirinhas (the potent kick-you-in-the-ass with a smile mix of Cachaça[BrazilianWhiteLightning], sugar and lime - the name means little hillbilly -) and the service superb. (cute waiters!). The Flamengo location is an inexpensive cab ride from Copacabana and Ipanema, address: * Av. Infante Dom Henrique s/n, Aterro do Flamengo, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil * 21 3389 8989. My favorite cuts are the Picanha beefsteak and the Pork tenderloin.
